Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener Review: A Must-Have for Every Kitchen

Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener Review

A sharp knife is essential for any home cook or professional chef. A dull knife makes cooking tasks tedious and increases the risk of accidents. If you're looking for an efficient, compact, and easy-to-use kitchen knife sharpener, the Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener is a game-changer. I recently tried this sharpener, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations.

Why I Chose the Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener

Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener Review

After struggling with dull knives for a while, I decided it was time to invest in a reliable best knife sharpener. Many options were available, but the Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener stood out due to its innovative design, multiple sharpening angles, and high-quality abrasives. The reviews were positive, and the fact that Work Sharp is a reputable brand known for its sharpening tools convinced me to give it a try.

Features That Make It Stand Out

Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener Review

1. Four Sharpening Angles

One of the best features of this sharpener is its Magnetic Angle Block, which offers four different sharpening angles—15°, 17°, 20°, and 25°. This versatility allows you to sharpen a variety of kitchen knives, including chef’s knives, Santoku, carving, utility, paring, steak knives, and even cleavers and boning knives. I found this particularly useful because I own different types of knives, and this sharpener worked perfectly on all of them.

2. Three Sharpening Abrasives

This sharpener comes with three high-quality abrasives: a coarse 320-grit diamond, a fine 600-grit diamond, and a fine ceramic stone. These abrasives help restore even the dullest knives to a razor-sharp edge. The coarse diamond abrasive is great for reshaping damaged or extremely dull blades, while the fine diamond and ceramic abrasives refine the edge, making it incredibly sharp.

I tested it on my dull chef’s knife, which I use daily. After a few strokes on each abrasive, my knife was noticeably sharper, slicing through tomatoes and onions effortlessly.

3. Compact and Easy to Store

The compact size (3.75"L x 2.6"W x 2.6"H) makes it easy to store in a kitchen drawer, unlike bulky electric sharpeners. I appreciate that it doesn’t take up much space but still provides professional-quality sharpening. It’s lightweight yet sturdy, making it convenient for quick touch-ups before cooking.

4. Durable and High-Quality Construction

Made of metal, the Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener is built to last. Many sharpeners wear out quickly, but this one feels solid and durable. Work Sharp also offers a 3-year warranty, ensuring that the product is reliable and backed by the manufacturer.

5. Designed and Engineered in the USA

I always appreciate products that are well-designed and undergo rigorous quality checks. This sharpener is designed, engineered, and calibrated in Ashland, Oregon, with materials sourced from high-quality manufacturers. It’s evident that the brand takes pride in its craftsmanship.

My Experience Using the Work Sharp Rolling Knife Sharpener

From the moment I unboxed this sharpener, I was impressed. The setup was straightforward, and I didn’t need any prior sharpening experience to use it effectively.

I started with my chef’s knife, setting it at the 20° angle since it’s a standard sharpening angle for most kitchen knives. The rolling motion made the sharpening process smooth and effortless. I moved my knife across each abrasive surface a few times, and within minutes, my knife was noticeably sharper.

Next, I tested it on a paring knife using the 17° angle for a more refined edge. Again, the results were outstanding. The sharpening process was quick, and the knife’s edge was razor-sharp, making peeling and slicing tasks much easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Very Well, BUT You Must Manually Follow Your Blade Curvature to Sharpen Entire Blade
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2024
I watched the videos and every one of them showed the person running the rolling sharpener in a straight line. How many actual knives do you know that do NOT have curved blades? Not many I'm sure. So I'm trying to do what the video shows, and I'm seeing that I'm missing the end of the blade(s) - WHERE IT CURVES. So did some alternative sharpening sweeps, and that's not as easy as the video suggests for normal sharpening; you have to be careful not to "angle" the roller when trying to follow the blade shape. I'm sure I'll get it figured out, but otherwise, I like that it has 4 angles, the magnet to hold the blade is SUPER strong and you do not have to put much pressure on the rolling sharpener. Knives get super sharp; I have some Japanese style kitchen knives, some western/european ones, and some standard (Dalstrong) steak knives, and I've done one of each so far and very impressed.

This sharpening system works very well for kitchen knives. It takes the guess work out of trying to sharpen knives to the proper angle and is very easy to use. I have not tried sharpening pocketknives yet but this sharpener shines on kitchen knives.

Bought this on the recommendation of a few "experts." Yes, it mostly works well, but the magnet is too short, and the knives can flex while you are rolling the sharpener. I find this way too expensive for what it does and all the effort it takes to sharpen a knife.

Magnet securely holds the blade at the appropriate angle (4 options are available). The 3 abrasive discs get the blade quickly sharp and honed.
